“Yeah. Don’t ask your friends to pray for all of the starving, dying children in the world. That would be silly. And I’m so glad your god took time out of his busy day to help you with your test! Those kids in 3rd world countries obviously just didn’t ask hard enough.”

okay these things are honestly starting to annoy me. We can’t pray for any damn thing because “omg selfish christian”. seriously? I’ve been called selfish because I’m thankful to God that I survived my tumor. I’m selfish because apparently by the sole fact that I’m thankful to God that somehow translates into “oh wow you think you’re more deserving of life then those poor children starving in other countries, dieing at young ages. you should be ashamed of yourself you stupid christian!”
what?! no, I’m just happy to be alive and the fact that I thank God makes me selfish? what the fuck?! Hell I thank God when I manage to pass a big exam, but that makes me selfish too? you act like just because we thank God for the little things makes us selfish Christians, what the fuck is selfish about being thankful? I don’t think I’m more deserving of fortune, I’m just HAPPY that I’m able to be fortunate, what the fuck is so selfish about being happy!?

It’s not really about being selfish or selfless. The way I see it, the problem here lies in the way God works (or doesn’t work). Ashley’s Facebook status implies that the reason she got 92% in her test was because lots of people prayed for her, and so God intervened. This then begs the question of why God doesn’t intervene when people pray for homeless people, starving children, oppressed minorities? God seems to be doing nothing in these areas - in fact, everything seems to be getting worse. And when you praise God for someone surviving a disease, or a natural disaster, what does that say for all those people who didn’t survive? They didn’t pray hard enough? God didn’t listen or doesn’t care about them? So when you praise God for the 92% he supposedly helped you get in your test, you’re ignoring all those other unanswered prayers - many of which would be for much more life-threatening issues than your own.
It raises a much bigger issue than selfishness, IMO. It raises the problem of a God who is extremely, and conveniently, selective with the prayers he supposedly answers.

Beautiful response.

Respect

I think in the long run, I’d much rather have respect than love. Affection is fleeting, and my detachment and cynicism would most likely dissuade people from truly loving me. But fuck that. Hard work and study in an art I am passionate about has already gotten me some respect. Love is arbitrary and whimsical. Respect is earned. And I like to work for what I get.

YOLO? Not if you’re a Christian.

Well, actually yes, even if you’re christian. You just don’t believe it while you’re living your only life.

That I am reblogging this from one of my christian friends is rather ironic, but NDT is spot on again.
